NewDANCEfest Pre-Pro | July 5-18 | Ages 18+

  • Jie-Hung Connie Shiau is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Raised in Tainan, Taiwan. Shiau has presented works at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s 43rd virtual season, New Choreographer Project in Taipei, Taiwan, Loyola University, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago summer intensives, SUNY Purchase College, Little Island Dance Festival, Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, Arts On Site, Abrons Arts Center, and Summer For The City at Lincoln Center.

    Shiau has worked as a collaborator with an array of companies, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, AIM by Kyle Abraham, Gallim Dance, Helen Simoneau Danse, MeenMoves, Adam Barruch/Anatomiae Occultii, Kevin Wynn Works, and Obremski/Works. She has performed works by Crystal Pite, Ohad Naharin, Lou Conte, Kyle Abraham, Johan Inger, Twyla Tharp, Brian Brooks, Peter Chu, Robyn Mineko Williams, Sharone Eyal, Fernando Melo, Alejandro Cerrudo, Helen Simoneau, Sameena Mitta, Rena Butler, Spencer Theberge, Jermaine Spivey, Out Innerspace Dance Theatre, Alice Klock, Hanna Kiel, Osnel Delgado, Adam Barruch, Jesse Obremski and the late Kevin Wynn.

    In addition, Shiau was one of the Fall 2025 Residency Artists at Baryshnikov Arts Center. Shiau’s dance film “Facing” was an Official Selection of Dance On Camera, and Official Selection and Best Choreographer of Cyprus Dance Film Festival in 2025. She was the leading female dancer in Huang Ruo’s opera, Angel Island, which premiered at BAM Harvey in January 2024. Her dance film Greener Grass was a semi-finalist in the London International Web & Shorts Film Festival in 2021. Shiau was a recipient of Chicago Dancemaker Forum Greenhouse Artist in 2019, Dance Magazine’s “25 To Watch” in 2018, Honorable Mention for Jadin Wong Award for Emerging Asian American Dancer in 2014, and Reverb Dance Festival Dancer Award in 2014. 

    Shiau is a co-director of Gold Standard Arts Foundation’s 10,000 Dreams Film Festival, and co-founded their Commissioned Dreamer Program. Shiau is a freelance artist based in New York City.

  • Joseph Hernandez is a choreographer and writer based in Seattle, Washington. His work as a choreographer has been presented with critical acclaim by such organisations as The Joyce NYC, Festspielhaus Hellerau, The Semperoper Dresden, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Theatre St. Gallen, and Whim W'Him Contemporary Dance Seattle, and the Staatstheater Nürnberg. His work The Lavender Follies was filmed for European Television by ZDF Deutschland and has now been disseminated worldwide. He has taught at SUNY Purchase College, Dance Arts Faculty (Rome), and Cornish College of the Arts, well as the Royal Danish Ballet, and Artof (Zurich) summer courses. He served as a founder and jury member for Tanznetz Dresden's STUDIO ROUND, curating showings and performances/discussions by creators from all over Europe. His installation series Nielsson Conversations was hosted by S T O R E Contemporary in Dresden, Germany. In addition to his freelance work, he was appointed Associate Choreographer at the Northwest Dance Project in 2022.

  • Nathan Crewe-Kluge grew up in La Grange IL, a suburb of Chicago. He trained in the Lou Conte Dance Studio scholarship program directed by Claire Bataille, and in programs with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Giordano Dance Chicago, DanceWorks Chicago, and River North Dance Chicago. Nathan continued his studies at SUNY Purchase College, where he received his BFA in Dance and Composition in 2022. 

    Nathan has performed with Chicago Repertory Ballet, Winifred Haun & Dancers, Mareck Dance, and now dances with Newport Contemporary Ballet. He has performed works by Sean Aaron Carmon, Joshua Blake Carter, Merce Cunningham, Colby Damon, Autumn Eckman, Kristopher Estes-Brown, Noelle Kayser, José Limón, Stephanie Martinez, Joshua L. Peugh, and many others. 

    Nathan grew passionate about choreography in college, joining Purchase’s Composition Concentration. He created his first commissioned work for Mareck Dance in 2023. Nathan had his work performed in MADCO’s Dare to Dance festival in 2024, and was an Emerging Choreographer at EDD NewDANCEfest 2024. Nathan is excited to be back at NewDANCEfest as a Master Choreographer, and can’t wait to share his knowledge and creativity again!

  • Rebecca McLindon Blanchard is a dance artist, teacher, and choreographer whose career has been shaped by a commitment to excellence and an endless fascination with dance and the body. Her work is rooted in a grounded, dynamic, and physical approach to contemporary movement, emphasizing intention, musicality, and emotional clarity. Rebecca graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College, where she also earned a minor in Business.

    She has performed work by Lar Lubovitch, David Parsons, Mia Michaels, Laurie Eisenhower, Ahmad Simmons, and more. She toured nationally with Eisenhower Dance Detroit, performing principal roles including Michigan Opera Theatre’s The Pearl Fishers, for which she also served as Dance Captain. As a freelance artist based in Chicago, she performed with Chicago Repertory Ballet, LEVELdance, Dance In The Parks, and others in repertory works and in the creation of new, original choreography. 

    Rebecca has taught and choreographed nationwide across youth, university, and professional settings, presenting original work at festivals and collaborating with visual artists to create interdisciplinary performance works.
